nyc birth certificate changes
7th-Mar-2013 02:34 am
So, I have every document changed except that my NYC birth certificate still says F. I live out of state, so I've only been able to follow lawsuits against the city's Health Dept from a distance, but I know that a judge ruled against them last year.
Does anyone know if there have been changes made to the Health Dept's procedures for changing the gender marker yet? I haven't been able to find anything online.

Not yet. They are still working on coming up with the new criteria. In the mean time folks are getting passports so that they don't have to show their birth certificates because passports are internationally recognized documents that prove the same thing a birth certificate proves.

Thanks for the update.
I have a passport already, I'm just really eager to finally have a full set of matching documents.

Unless you have genital surgery it is a waiting game at this point. It looks like they are changing it but to what is the question.

I've had a hysto and top surgery and for now, at least, that's all I want to go through.
Which means... yeah, waiting. I assume they haven't set any kind of deadline for when the new policy will be revealed?

The deadline came and went.
